Students from Madison, Illinois schools celebrated graduation at WWTR

JUNE 17, 2020 — Most times, graduation from school meant walking across the stage in a crowded auditorium to receive your diploma. The pandemic negated those plans so a new way to graduate was formulated: in a car, at World Wide Technology Raceway.

Students from the Madison School District were the guests of WWTR today for this unique way to put away the books for 2020.

A recorded rendition of Sir Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” played through the p.a. speakers as a parade of cars, each one carrying a graduate, rounded Turn 4 and headed down the front straightaway. As each one neared the finish line, the checkered flag was waved and the students received their diplomas.
