MADISON, Illinois (September 13) – Gateway Motorsports Park hosted the United Black Drag Racers Association’s Black Sunday event on Saturday and Sunday. Terry Lacey of Edwardsville, Illinois, defeated Jason McKague of Chamois, Missouri, in the final round of Super Pro eliminations.

Weekend winners also included Handy Hartline (Pro), Jeremy McKague (Street – with a perfect reaction time of .000), Californian Rob Linders (Super Pro Motorcycle), Phil Humphrey (Street Bike), Jakob Richardt (Jr. Dragster) and Brandon France (Jr. Dragster Consolation).

The Black Sunday event included drag racing, exhibition racing a hip hop car show, hydraulics contest and free cancer screening from the St. Louis University Cancer Center.

COMING UP: GMP will present the annual NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals on September 25-27. Pro classes will include Top Fuel Dragster, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle and Pro Mod. The race is a crucial event of the NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship title chase.

On Thursday, September 24, GMP and the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will present a free fan fest from 4-6 p.m. at The Outfield at Mike Shannon’s Steak & Seafood ( at 620 Market Street in St. Louis. The free fan fest will include a driver and rider autograph session, show cars, live music and the opportunity to win race tickets.
