Gateway Motorsports Park announced its 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series national event date today. The annual AAA Insurance NHRA Nationals will take place on Sept. 22-24, 2017. The St. Louis-area event is a must-win for all top teams as it is the second race in the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship.
“We are very excited to have two huge pieces of our event schedule locked into place for 2017,” said Chris Blair, GMP’s Executive Vice President and General Manager. “With NASCAR announcing its 2017 schedule last month, this is the earliest GMP has been able to declare its major events for the coming year.”
The 2017 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Drivin’ For Linemen 200 is slated for June 17, 2017.
“With more than 300 event days annually, our scheduling process takes several months to complete and the earlier we can lock in our major events the better chance it gives us in attracting other major programming,” Blair added. “There have been times when I’ve had to wait until September or even October to even begin sharing available dates with the groups that utilize our multiple tracks throughout the season. We appreciate the efforts of both NASCAR and NHRA for this major change. It gives us a three-month head start on our 2017 event calendar.
“We also see this as a huge benefit to our community. This will help our sponsors, local tourism groups, the St. Louis Sports Commission, local government and area hotels in their planning for the upcoming season as well. Our promotions and sales teams already are looking ahead to these great events.”
