April 20, 2018, St. Louis Region – Chad Barton of Valles Mines, Missouri won Gateway Motorsports Park’s opening round of the new Sharks of the Strip outlaw heads-up racing program. Barton’s 1989 Mustang defeated the 1969 Nova of Derek Hollonsfine of Quincy, Illinois in the final round of eliminations. The win was worth $1,000.

The “no-time,” heads-up (first car to the eighth-mile finish line wins) season-opener had a nine-car field and is expected to grow quickly as many cars chose to test tonight in preparation for the next meet, on May 4.

Barton defeated Jeremy Goehman of Perryville, Missouri in the first round. He eliminated Jacob Rueschoff in the second and Dustin Kurz of Frankfort, Missouri in the semi-final. Barton’s reaction time in the final, .089 to Hollonsfine’s .290, sealed the deal. Hollonsfine won $500 for the runner-up position.
