ARCA Papa Nicholas 150 is prelude to June 23 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series 200

May 24 — It’s been 11 years since the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards circled the 1.25-mile Gateway Motorsports Park oval in Madison, Illinois. That soon will change when the Papa Nicholas 150 comes to life Friday night, June 22 under the lights.

2007 winner Bryan Clauson

The late Bryan Clauson was the last driver to win an ARCA race at Gateway, in August of 2007. Mark Gibson won the first ARCA race at Gateway in 1997, staging a memorable late-race duel with ARCA champion Tim Steele to earn his career-first ARCA victory. ARCA winners in between include Frank Kimmel, Ryan Hemphill, Joey Miller and Cale Gale.

The Papa Nicholas 150 serves as a thrilling prelude for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series 200 on Saturday, June 23. The ARCA race at Gateway, race No. 10 of 20 in 2018, also will mark the halfway point of the ARCA Racing Series season.

With five ARCA races in the record books, Zane Smith of Huntington Beach, California, leads the points chase by 30 over Sheldon Creed, in second place. Venturini Motorsports driver Natalie Decker currently is fifth. Brandon Grasso, the high school senior who will skip his graduation to race at Gateway – and drives for NASCAR Cup veteran Ken Schrader of Fenton, Missouri – currently is ninth.
