New race date follows AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals

November 7, 2018, St. Louis Region – The annual NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series race at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois, is moving to a new, earlier date in 2019. The NHRA LODRS All-American Showdown, featuring Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars, will take place on the weekend of October 4-6, 2019 – one week after GMP’s annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. The calendar adjustment not only helps traveling Sportsman racers who wish to compete in both events but competitors may also enjoy better weather than a late-October date.

“This date adjustment is a tremendous benefit and cost savings to the Sportsman teams that participate in the NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional and Regional Series,” said GMP Executive Vice President and General Manager Chris Blair. “It enables them to compete in two major events on consecutive weekends without costly travel expenses. When teams come to Gateway Motorsports Park for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series national event they now will be able to stay on-site until the following weekend’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series meet. This should enable us to dramatically grow the event from 520 participants in 2018 — and be the perfect ending to NHRA Sportsman competition in the Midwest for the 2019 season.

“For our fans and staff it dramatically increases the chances of better weather — and will enable an easy transition from one race to the next,” Blair added. “We will be extending special offers to national event fans and campers that will allow them to take advantage of the convenience of two super weekends in St. Louis.”
