Kartplex’s Keith Scharf receives Bob Mueller Award

Gateway Motorsports Park Kartplex general manager Keith Scharf received the coveted Bob Mueller Award on Saturday, January 19 at the annual St. Louis Auto Racing Fan Club banquet.

Keith not only is the general manager of Gateway Kartplex but also is an SCCA champion, Mark Donohue Award winner, multi-time kart champ, and winner of the 2018 Quincy Grand Prix.

Each year, the fan club honors “the behind-the-scenes dedication of an individual” with the Bob Mueller Award.

“This year’s winner turned his hobby into a multi-faceted career,” said club president Eileen Waters. “With his trademark attention to detail, he’s won countless titles in multiple forms of motorsports, received national recognition for his accomplishments and raced against legends. We’ve already honored him tonight for his on-track achievements, but his work out of the driver’s seat is just as impressive. Organizing not just one, or two, but three local racing leagues, this gentleman can be seen manning just about every post possible on race day. He’s constantly bounding across the track to start races, announce, move damaged vehicles to safety, handle competitor inquiries, and do any other thing he can think of.

“But that’s just the beginning: He also manages the track’s staff and operations year-round, maintains a fleet of race vehicles, mentors the next generation of drivers into the SCCA and open-wheel ranks, is constantly promoting motorsports to everyone he meets and always encouraging fans to buy a kart and join the local driver ranks. The St. Louis Auto Racing Fan Club is proud to present this year’s Bob Mueller Award to Keith Scharf.”
