October 9 — The 2018 drag racing schedule is winding down at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois. Only two editions of Wide Open Wednesday presented by AAA Insurance and Midnight Madness fueled by NOS Energy Drink remain on the 2018 calendar.
Wide-Open Wednesday Presented By AAA Insurance is GMP’s official mid-week family-friendly racing experience. Wide Open Wednesday provides hardcore racers with the opportunity to test their vehicles on a race-prepped quarter-mile track and also provides casual car enthusiasts the opportunity to try out their hobby car or street rod in race conditions. Each Wide Open Wednesday features food and drink specials, including $2 hot dogs and $2 beer. The final Wide Open Wednesdays of 2018 are scheduled for October 10 and October 24.
Midnight Madness fueled by NOS Energy Drink is GMP’s street-legal drag racing and drifting program. Midnight Madness (#MidMad) offers a safe alternative to illegal street racing and an opportunity for drivers to race each other in their street-legal cars on the quarter-mile drag strip in an informal atmosphere. The final Midnight Madness dates of 2018 are scheduled for October 12 (Halloween Spooktacular) and November 2.
The final opportunity for local bracket racers to showcase their skills will be the 24th annual UBDRA Black Sunday meet on Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14.
The final special event of the year is scheduled for October 19-20. The All-American Hot Rod Showdown for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is the final race east of the Rocky Mountains for that series and will determine the 2018 champions. The series features 280-mph injected nitro-burning dragsters and 260-mph Top Alcohol Funny Cars. For more information: CLICK HERE
